- Income, expenses and net for each month and for the year
- A year total for every category, ready to hand to your accountant
- 500 ledger rows and 20 categories
How to track Schedule C income and expenses in a spreadsheet
- Download the blank workbook below (or the filled example first, to see it work).
- Settings tab: check the categories and set the year.
- Ledger tab: one row per payment: date, who, category, amount (always positive).
- Open the Dashboard tab: income, expenses and net by month, and every category total for the year.
Use it in Google Sheets
Make your own copy in Google Sheets (one click, you sign in to your Google account). Or upload the .xlsx to Google Drive, open it, then File > Save as Google Sheets. Excel 2010 or newer opens the .xlsx directly.

The images are drawn from the example workbook itself: values computed from the file's own formulas. Example data is fictional.
How we checked it
Every formula was evaluated by a second spreadsheet engine with 0 errors, and the Google Sheets copy shows 0 error cells. The example's income (71,550), expenses (5,535) and net (66,015) equal an independent sum of its ledger rows, and the category totals add up to the same 77,085. We have not opened it in desktop Excel itself; it uses standard functions (SUMIFS, INDEX/MATCH, IFERROR) that Excel supports. This is a record-keeping tool, not tax advice.
